How Acquired: Signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Vikings March 8, 2005.
Injury History: Missed five games in 2005 with a broken collarbone. Missed one game in 2003 with a bruised sternum. Missed two games in 2001 with a knee injury.

2005: The Vikings gave Smoot one of the richest contracts in team history when he was signed to start opposite Antoine Winfield. Played in 11 games and made eight starts. Finished the season with 41 tackles and two interceptions.
2004: In his final season with Washington, made 59 tackles and a career-low three interceptions. Started all 15 games he played.
2003: Played in 15 games and started 14 of them. Had four interceptions and 57 tackles.
2002: Started all 16 games for the Redskins. Had a career-high 61 tackles and made four interceptions.
2001: In his rookie season, played in 14 games and made 13 starts. He finished first on the Redskins with five interceptions and second on the team with 12 pass deflections.
College: At Mississippi State, was one of the nation’s most dominant defensive backs. Played right CB, and QBs didn’t throw much in his direction. Still finished with a team-high five INTs, 55 tackles (42 solo), including two for losses (minus-3 yards), and a school single-season record 19 pass breakups. His five INTs tied him for sixth-most ever at MSU in a single season. (He also had five in 1999). Earned first-team All-American. In 1999, was All-SEC in his first season with the Bulldogs. Started all 12 games, including the Peach Bowl, and recorded 57 tackles and a team-high five INTs. Intercepted a pass for the third straight game and made two tackles in the Bulldogs’ 17-7 win over Clemson in the Peach Bowl. His INT at the MSU 13 halted Clemson’s initial scoring drive.
