| Barrett Brooks at one time was an intriguing offensive line prospect. Brooks is a solid zone blocker, but struggles with man-up responsibilities due to his limited athletic ability. Despite good size, he is not a physically strong blocker and is below average technically. Lacking desirable lateral movement, Brooks is unable to recover in space and will be beaten by the speed-rush. A much better run blocker than pass blocker, Brooks displays the ability to get low in rush blocking responsibilities, while lacking the lower body strength to push defenders off the ball.
2003: Brooks was active for one game.
Barrett Brooks was signed by the Steelers in October 2003. Brooks had 62 career starts in the 8 years he had played in the NFL up to that point.
Brooks was originally a second-round draft selection by Philadelphia in 1995. He started 45 games his three seasons with the Eagles, playing all 16 games in 1998, with one start.
An unconditional free agent in 1999, he
signed with Detroit and played in 31 games for the Lions over the 1999 and
2000 seasons, with 12 starts in the former and 4 in the latter. 2001, he signed with Cleveland in July and was waived in the team's final roster cutdown in September. He remained out of football for the 2001 regular season. He signed with Green Bay in 2002 and was off and on their 53-man roster over that season.
At Kansas State, Brooks was a three-year starter at left tackle and was a mainstay of the 1994 offense that led the Big Eight in passing. He was named to first team Big Eight as a senior. |
