Ravens coach Brian Billick didn’t indicate whether Sanders would take part in
next week's mandatory minicamp. Sanders, 37, hasn’t resumed cutting yet and only
began serious training June 1 after undergoing toe surgery on his left foot
after an injury-plagued season.
“That’s up to [trainer Bill Tessendorf] and Deion as to how he progresses,”
Billick said. “That’s about getting him optimum shape for the opener. His impact
on the organization without stepping on the field is nothing but a positive.
He's here for the right reasons."
TRAINING ROOM: Rookie wide receiver Mark Clayton, the team’s first-round draft
pick, tweaked his hamstring again and was held out of drills. The injury wasn’t
believed to be serious.
“We have to be conscious of it,” Billick said of an injury Clayton incurred at a
rookie camp the weekend after Baltimore drafted him.
Defensive end Tony Weaver didn't practice because of an injury he declined to
specify. Offensive tackle Orlando Brown (knee), fullback Alan Ricard (knee),
offensive guard Edwin Mulitalo (triceps), tight end Todd Heap (ankle, shoulder)
and running back Musa Smith (leg) were held out of drills, too.
QUICK HITS: In a two-minute drill, quarterback Kyle Boller’s first pass was
intercepted by Chad Williams and his second one was batted down by a defensive
lineman. The offense eventually scored. … Rookie quarterback Derek Anderson is
trying to catch up after missing two minicamps because his Oregon State class
hadn’t graduated yet. “He’s lost right now,” Billick said of Anderson, who’s
competing with undrafted rookie Darian Durant to be the third quarterback. …
Billick said he plans to install the entire offense and defense by the end of
next week. ... The only player not expected to attend next week's practices is
defensive end/linebacker Terrell Suggs, whose felony aggravated assault trial
begins Monday in Arizona.
COMMUNITY EVENTS: The Ravens donated home and away uniforms and cleats for all
18 Baltimore City public high school football teams, with Dunbar graduate Tommy Polley, safety Ed Reed and team president Dick Cass presenting them to players
and coaches at M&T Bank Stadium. … Outside linebacker Adalius Thomas is holding
his annual golf tournament Friday at Mountain Branch Golf Course. … Polley is
holding a football and cheerleading camp Saturday and Sunday at Lake Clifton
High School. ... Offensive guard Edwin Mulitalo is hosting a “Mulitalopalooza”
concert Friday night at the Recher Theater in Towson to benefit high school
music departments.
